I wanted to do a unique variation on this recording like no one ever has, so I spent a long time researching how others recorded this song and it came to my awareness that everyone had always recorded this as a ballade? So I thought I might be taking a huge risk, but isn't that what singers do? I mean after all, Nina Simone is the one who made this song popular? So I decided I was going to do it, no looking back! I began the 1st chorus like the ballade it is known for, but wrote into the arrangement for the band to swing the last few phrase's! And after they did? Am I glad we did it. It was as exciting as I envisioned it would be. I mean you can anticipate something forever? Or you can just take a leap & do it! This tune was the result of taking that chance! And the band? Brought it home!
